Belmont House is home to the 19th-century politician, surveyor, and renaissance man, Samuel Wilmot.

Local trivia: The Jasco Factory in Newcastle was built in 1848 by Daniel Massey. It was the beginning of what is today the largest agricultural equipment business in Canada. The factory’s purpose has shifted with time. During the First World War, it manufactured wooden munitions cases. Afterward, silver jewelry.
